North America Youth Conference - 2026
The 38th National Youth Conference of the Assyrian Church of the East Youth Association North America recently concluded in Detroit, bringing together over 550 youth for worship, fellowship, service, and spiritual growth. Founded in the 1980s by dedicated youth leaders from various parishes, starting with an initial meeting in Yonkers, the event has become a vital gathering for the next generation.
This year’s conference introduced meaningful improvements that received strong feedback. A hotel room was transformed into a dedicated chapel, remaining open all day with priests available for prayer, spiritual guidance, and confession. Many youth took full advantage of this space to reflect, pray, and open their hearts. Another highlight was the volunteer service project with Keep Growing Detroit, where participants weeded gardens, tied tomato plants, and supported a nonprofit providing fresh produce to local families, a humbling and refreshing experience. Sessions were thoughtfully divided by age (13-18 and 19+), allowing relevant workshops on friendships, life after high school, everyday Christianity, and powerful testimonies, including Dr. Glenn’s historic presentation on the Assyrian Church in China and Steve Morteda’s moving personal testimony during the worship night.
Leaders were especially encouraged to see youth holding one another accountable, supporting each other through trials, and showing genuine conviction in their faith. The conference closed on a high note with a special fellowship outing to the Detroit Tigers game, where Father Andrew threw the first pitch.
As Father Andrew and Father Genard encouraged, the road ahead brings intensifying challenges, but the perfect sacraments, traditions, and grace of the Holy Church remain our strength. Please keep our youth, leaders, and parishes in your prayers.
